Valentine's Day Musings
I am working on an article about Valentine's Day. It occurs to me that Valentine's Day puts an unusual amount of pressure on couples - pressure to "show" someone how much you love them...at least that is what the commercials all say.
I wonder about the pressure Valentine's Day puts on those who are not in a relationship...Does Valentine's Day make single folks feel a bit sad to be alone - when the rest of the year they are quite content?
I am coming up with tips for couples to navigate the upcoming holiday.
How do you handle Valentine's Day? Have any tips I should be sure to include?
I would love to hear from you -
Cynthia

Hi Cynthia,
The commercial side of Valentine's Day was a washout here in northern Vermont with our recent blizzard. I was bummed that I was not able to get out and sell last minute shortbread, but also slightly relieved that I could hunker down for the day and practice a little self love, which in my opinion, is essential in order to love others.
I just read a beautiful piece written by friend and coach, Laura Lind-Blum, The Idea Midwife, at http://www.ideamidwife.com/. It's called The Day the Earth Stood Gently Still.
I love how the snow forced all of us here in my neck of the woods to slow down, be still, and ride out the storm in a very different kind of Valentine's Day that was about connecting with family and helping neighbors, sipping hot chocolate, and spending a quiet day reflecting on the sometimes extreme beauty of nature.
